Jay Cutler Wins the 2007 Mr. Olympia!
by Kevin Carbone
Jay Cutler took home his second Sandow trophy in a row by winning the 2007 Mr. Olympia on Saturday night, September 29, before a sell-out crowd at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Going into the contest it was generally felt that Jay's biggest competition would be Ronnie Coleman who Jay dethroned last year after Ronnie won eight Mr. Olympias in a row. However, it was Victor Martinez who was on Jay's heels coming up with only a one point difference in scoring between Victor's second place showing. Jay was smooth for the Friday night pre-judging but came back much improved for the Saturday night finals.
In third place was Dexter Jackson who won the 2005 and 2006 Arnold Classic but lost the 2007 crown to Martinez earlier this year. Ronnie Coleman came in fourth and announced his retirement from Olympia competition with a classy and heart-felt speech in which he expressed his love for bodybuilding and the fans.
The biggest crowd favorite of the night was Dennis Wolf who many felt should have won the contest! His massive size tapering to a wasp waist was in direct contrast to the bloated belly look that has become a problem in recent years. Dennis's fifth place showing was unpopular with the booing crowd who felt that he should have placed higher. He also won the Bodybuilding.com Fan's Choice Award with 32% of the votes while Victor Martinez was second at 27%. Look for Dennis Wolf to be a major threat to Jay's crown next year.
Also, as part of the same weekend of events, the ladies of the muscle world had their chance at the Ms. Olympia, Ms. Figure Olympia, and Ms. Fitness Olympia. With the same winners as last year, Iris Kyle won the Ms. Olympia, Jenny Lynn won the Ms. Figure Olympia, and Adela Garcia won the Ms. Fitness Olympia.
For the first time this year's Mr. Olympia weekend was broadcast free on Bodybuilding.com. Check out the video replays for all aspects of the event. |
